Away from the horde of tourists that fill the restaurants of Siem Reap, you will find Chamkar House. A little oasis where you can enjoy a good vegetarian meal.
To realize the plates they use vegetables grown locally and the food served is totally natural and of course MSG-free. You will be able to dine in the relaxing backyard of a traditional Khmer house. The atmosphere will be even more pleasant thanks to the nice lighting illuminating the garden and obviously because of the tasty food that you can try here.
The menu presented is elaborate from the traditional Khmer cuisine, but of course in a vegetarian way. For example, we decided to try the national dish Amok, and even if we still prefer the one with fish, we have to admit that was interesting these new and different combinations of flavors.
Between all the courses that we tried, the ones that we liked more, were the preparations with the mushrooms. The starter that we took was the Wedding Day Dip, dunking the Cambodian baguette in the velouté of coconut milk and mushroom, literally finger-liking. On the other hand, also the Mushroom Pot conquered definitely our taste. These are creamy mushrooms that will melt in your mouth, perfectly seasoned with lemon basil leaf. Our favorite dish of the evening, for sure!
If you want to enjoy their food but you are not willing to get out of the city center, you can also enjoy them right in front of the old market, where they have a small version of their restaurant called Chamkar.
