In the outskirts of the town of Karakol, there is Sun House Hostel. To reach it you can either take a marshrutka, a taxi or a little walk because even if it’s a bit out of the city, it’s just 3km away from the center.
The advantage of its position is the tranquility of the neighborhood, the view on the mountains from the kitchen and the proximity to Karakol National Park to go and do some trekking. Surely once there, you will recognize it since the walls of the house are decorated with colorful graffiti.
In the morning one of the guys working at the reception will prepare the breakfast and the first day that we were there they even came to wake us up when it was ready. To eat there will be a fried egg, some biscuits, bread with butter and only the first morning we had also cereals. For drinks, there is tea and coffee, as there is all day long, and also fresh milk.
The kitchen is big and fully equipped to cook, with oven, stoves, toaster, kettle and microwave. There is only missing a little bigger chilling area where to relax and hang out in the common space. In any case, also in the garden, you can spend some time in the company of the other guests or with the so sweet and cute little dog, always up for a game.
When you leave the hostel if you want to keep some stuff safe there are few lockers available in the hallway and if you need a laundry to clean your clothes in the bathroom there is a washing machine that you can use, of course with an extra charge. To buy your food don’t worry, you will not need to go to the town center since there is a well furnished and cheap market right next to the hostel.
The relation between quality and price is really awesome in fact because for just a little more than 4 USD you will a bed to sleep and a nice breakfast in the morning. The rooms available are four, all with bunk beds except one that has also a double bed and if, like in our case, when you are at SunHouse there are not many other guests it will be like having a private room for a price of a dorm.
