The Baron is a new brand bar and restaurant, opened only 10 days before we had the pleasure to try it, while our stay in Nyaung-U. It’s located in the main street, definitely not ostentatious but nicely decorated following the Burmese style. With big red traditional Myanmar umbrellas covering the tables and with all the furniture hand-made by the owner himself with canes.
The Baron Cafe is most oriented on snacks and western foods, but let me tell you that Burmese cuisine that they can offer you is still a cut above than the other preparations. Personally, even if I don’t go crazy for soups, the one that we tried here was simply delicious. Directly from the mother’s recipes of the owners, the Bagan Minestrone soup is a definitely dish to try.
About Jordi surely will recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala, moreover for the sauce of cashew nuts and milk that was served with it. Nice and different thought of the owners is that instead of the usual steamed rice as a side dish for the masala, they decided to use bread, more in line with the western habits.
Definitely you should stop by this new restaurant, even if it’s just for a drink in this relaxing atmosphere. Don’t forget that if you pass by between 5:30pm and 7pm there is the happy hour going on, so you can buy one drink and get one free! And we have to say they prepare a hell of a daiquiri :)
